Downloading Radio
To download data from a radio, do the following:
- Connect the radio to the proper serial port using a cable for that radio. For a TH-D7, use a cable that terminates in a 3 conductor phone plug and plug into the "PC" jack. For the TM-D700, TS-480, and TS-2000, use a straight through ( not a cross wired or "null modem" ) cable that terminates in a DB-9 connector and use the DB-9 connector on the radio main unit. For the TM-G707, use the Kenwood PG-4S or equivalent. For the TH-F6/F7, use a Kenwood PG-4P or equivalent.
- Turn the radio ON.
- For TM-D700 and TH-D7, be sure the radio is not in packet mode, i.e. the TNC on the panel should not show.
- Select or create an appropriate profile, i.e. one that matches the radio type. Click either Radio/Download, the down arrow button on the tool bar, or type ctrl+D.
If the connection is working, and the radio is in the proper mode, the download will start. A progress bar will appear to track the progress of the download.
If something is not functioning, you will get the error "Lost/could not establish communication with radio." Check your connection, the radio mode, and try again. In some cases, especially for the TH-D7, the radio gets into a mode where it will not communicate with the computer link, although everything looks like it is set up properly. Usually, turning the radio off and on again will clear up this problem.
