Uploading Radio

To upload the radio do the following:

- Connect the radio to the proper serial port using a cable for that radio.  For a TH-D7, use a cable that terminates in a 3 conductor phone plug and plug into the "PC" jack.  For the TM-D700, TS-480, and TS-2000, use a straight through ( not a cross wired or "null modem" ) cable that terminates in a DB-9 connector and use the DB-9 connector on the radio main unit. For the TM-G707, use the Kenwood PG-4S or equivalent. For the TH-F6/F7, use a Kenwood PG-4P or equivalent.

- Turn the radio ON.

- For the TM-D700 and TH-D7, be sure the radio is not in packet mode, i.e. the TNC on the panel should not show.

- Select the profile you wish to upload. It must match the radio type. Decide on a full upload or changes only upload. For full upload, click "Radio/Upload/Upload All" or ctrl+alt+U or click the up arrow/ALL button on the tool bar. For changes only upload, click "Radio/Upload/Upload Changes" Only or ctrl+U or click the up arrow button on the tool bar.

If the connection is working, and the radio is in the proper mode, the upload will start.  A progress bar will appear to track the progress of the upload.

If something is not functioning, you will get the error "Lost/could not establish communication with radio." Check your connection, the radio mode, and try again.  In some cases, especially for the TH-D7, the radio gets into a mode where it will not communicate with the computer link, although everything looks like it is set up properly.  Usually, turning the radio off and on again will clear up this problem.

Changes Only verses Full Upload

link700 keeps track of all changes made to data in a profile.  It can therefore upload only that data that was changed.  In order to use this properly, either of the two following situations must exist:

- You have just downloaded data from the radio, and you make some changes.

- You have just uploaded data ( full or changes only ) to the radio and you make some (more) changes.

For instance, if you download data from you radio, change one channel frequency, then do a "Changes only" upload, only the changed data will be sent, taking only a fraction of a second, rather than the time for a full upload. Or, if you have just uploaded  the radio and have forgotten to make a change you wanted, simply make the change and do a "Changes only" upload again.

On the other hand, if you load a profile from disk, link700 sets all the changed flags on the profile to true, so the "Changes only" upload will do the same thing as the "Upload all".  Therefore, it is generally safe to use the "Upload changes" feature, and it's shortcut (ctrl+U) is simpler for that reason.  You really only need to use the "Upload all" feature if you are not sure of the contents of your radio.
